The Best Avocado Toasts In The Three European Fashion Capital Cities

What is the fruit that millennials love the most? And the most photographed one? And what about the healthiest? Yes, you guessed right, the answer is always the same: avocado!

PARIS

Le Pont Traversée

When people ask me where to eat the best avocado toast in town, I have no doubts: Le Pont Traversée. Located in an old bookstore a few steps away from le Jardin de Luxembourg, this 100% gluten-free café is my go-to for a Sunday brunch friends. The portion are generous, avocado is perfectly ripe and seasoned with a mix of vegan pesto, gomasio, garlic oil and herbs. Special mention to the bread made in-house with chickpea flour. Apart from the avocado toast there are lots of delicious alternatives: fresh fish tartares, green vegan bowls, bagels and traditional breakfast plates with eggs and salmon. They also bake amazing desserts (matcha donuts anyone?) that you can enjoy straight after your meal or take with you for a “balade” in the park!

Saint Pearl

Again on the Rive Gauche, Saint Pearl is a small Japanese café become famous for its wide selection of matcha-based drinks and desserts (which btw are really good). They have also recently added a short brunch menu including all the classics (pancakes, egg buns) as well as two versions of our beloved toast. Last time I was there I went for the vegan one and topped it with a poached egg. As you can see from the picture, it was a colourful masterpiece. I’ve have never seen anywhere else such a variety of toppings: delicious roasted sweet potatoes chunks, crispy cauliflowers, endives and fresh herbs. If you want to taste it, remember to go there early, the café only has a few seats and waiting time during the weekend can easily reach 1hour.

London

Granger & Co.

If you know me, you know I’m obsessed with this Australian-style café. They have 5 locations around the city, but my favorite will forever be the one in Chelsea, nested in Pavillion Road, my favorite street in London. Every time I go to London I try to squeeze in at least one brunch/ coffee break here. The avocado toast is part of their breakfast menu and is served until 12PM. Their signature dusty knuckle sourdough bread is amazing, crispy and humid at the same time, but you can also opt for their gluten-free or paleo versions. I always prefer to pair eggs with my toast, but I recommend you to try their jasmine tea hot smoked salmon, which has a more aromatic and delicate flavour than traditional one. I’m also a fan of their “fresh aussie” plate starring avocado, eggs, seasonal greens and the aforementioned salmon. If you want to overindulge order their ricotta and banana pancakes, decadent and fluffy, you will not be disappointed.

NAC – North Audley Cantine

If you are around Mayfair and you want to have a great brunch, make sure to stop at NAC or better, make sure to book a table here. From the décor of the outside terrace to the food, I’m in love with everything of this restaurant. What is great about their avocado toast, is the fact they combine avocado cream and avocado slices ,resulting in the perfect texture. Portion is really generous, and poached eggs are included, which is not frequent. I always order their house green salad on the side as I love the hazelnut salt they use to season it. I have also tried their dinner menu a few times and they were great too!

Milan

Lùbar

Whenever I go back to Milan I make sure to have at least one lunch at Lùbar, one of my favorite spots in town. Finding a good avocado toast in Milan is a real challenge, but I promise Lùbar’s one will satisfy your cravings. As you might have understood by now, I am extremely picky about bread and the one they use here is mind-blowing: it is made with ancient Sicilian grains and a mix of seeds, I cannot resist to finish the bread basket while waiting for my toast. One full sliced avocado is used for each portion, and you can choose among classic toppings as salmon or eggs and less traditional ones as raw shrimps (pro tip). If you go there do not forget to order “panelle”, a delicious Sicilian appetizer made with fried chickpea flour and paired with a smooth avocado cream and “ricotta cannoli” with your coffee. If your friends are not avocado fans don’t worry: Lùbar offers tons of delicious options that will make everyone happy.

Otto

Hidden in the Chinese district of Milan, via Paolo Sarpi, Otto is a polyhedral space designed to stand out from typical Milanese cafés and co-workings. Once you enter through the big glass door, you do not have the impression to be in Milan anymore: the clean and modern décor, all the young creative people chatting around and the specialty coffee menu recall the well-known style of Nordic cafés. Otto is famous for its quadrOtti, a wide selection of open toasts. Their avocado toast is a dream: a huge amount of smashed avocado topped with crispy cucumber, mint and toasted seeds. I’ve also tried the one with hummus and roasted carrots which was extremely good. On Sunday they have a brunch formula including: a toast, a side, dessert, yogurt and fruit.
