How To Avoid The End Of Summer Blues And Get Back On Track

It has been a long hot summer, and for many of us, the first summer since the pandemic where we have had restriction-free travel for the entire summer - and what a summer it has been! As the days slowly start to get colder and the temperature begins to drop a few degrees we can almost be hit with a sudden pang of sadness. Summer if coming to an end, and for us in Europe (especially the UK) we will have to likely wait a whole year for the next heatwave. Whilst the end of anything can bring up uncertain feelings and a slight lull of sadness when it comes to the end of a season we encourage you to try and get excited for what is to come. Autumn is on it’s way, the season of abundance, harvesting and a chance to recoup after all the doing in summer.

Below are our 6 favourite hacks to beat the end-of-summer blues and get right back on track where you need to be.!

1. Book a retreat

Summer, especially Summer ’22 is often a time where we find ourselves out of our homes more, coming together with the people we love. It is festival season, wedding season and holiday season. We live in a state of doing as opposed to being. In Yin Yoga we call this time of year a double yang period so it’s no wonder that come the end of summer you might feel yourself retreating from activities and in need of some serious self-care.

There is no greater gift to yourself than that of self-care and a retreat is the perfect place to unwind, connect with likeminded souls, connect within and get back to nature. The Wellness Reporter Black Forest Post-Summer Detox and Reset Retreat is the perfect setting to head to after the long summer. Offering a specially curated program that is designed to help you relax, detox and revive. Or, if you’re a foodie and yogi looking to pair your two loves together then the White Truffle Experience Retreat is perfect for you. A unique blend of fine dining alongside yoga therapy puts the word balance to use.

2. Get to know your gut

Ah our gut, our second brain and where our intuition comes to life. There is so much to be known about our gut and after a summer of indulging there is no greater time to give your body a detox and reset. Modern life has us eating out of season and over indulging on processed foods, all which have an affect on our body and immune system. Get ahead of the curve and ahead of the winter cold and flu season by getting to know your gut better. We know there is a lot of information online and it can all be so overwhelming when we are just getting started. Book a Gut Health Consultation to help you debunk the myths and get started. Sessions start from 90mins to a full 6- months programme, to fulfil your needs.

3. Have a wardrobe swap out

One of the best things about a new season? Having a wardrobe clearcut. It is time to put away the sandals and sarongs and get out the boots and beanies. Those of us living in cities know how limited apartment wardrobe space can be (we are still out here dreaming of walk-in closets). A great space saver is to take out your clothes from a previous season and put them away in vacuum pack bags tucked away or in storage until the next season. Having a seasonal swap over does not need to be a laborious task, we can make it into a self care ritual. By carving out the time in our day, getting together a great playlist and folding your clothes dancing to Beyonce’s new album. This is also a great time to get rid of anything and declutter your life. As Mary Kondo says: “anything which does not spark jot has to go”.

4. Reflect, Connect and Aim

Gratitude is the most magnetic emotion and when we harness it at the end of a season we can find that we can swap that lulling sadness of something being over for a feeling of gratitude that it happened in the first place. As we begin to transition into autumn, take time to reflect on spring and summer this year, connect back to ourselves, our values and our goals as well as set some clearly defined goals of what we want out of this season. Again, this is something that can be made into a beautiful weekend self-care ritual. Give a Saturday evening just for you, indulge in a gorgeous bath-bomb filled bubble bath, give yourself an at-home Gua Sha facial and then settle down with your journal and a glass of your favourite drink and get started.

5. Plan something to get excited for

Holiday season might be over for this year but that does not mean you cannot start to get excited for next year! If this summer has left you lusting for a trip next year then what better time to start putting together a mood board and getting plans in place. Not into the admin? Well we have you covered, The Wellness Reporter’s Luxury Private Travels could be exactly what you need to get you through autumn!

6. Have fun

Summer is over but that does not mean you cannot still have fun. Swap festivals for forests, sundowners for spa days and pub gardens for a cosy fireplace. Autumn is one of the most beautiful seasons. Sunrise and sunset have a special glow, with colours that light up the sky like no other (not to mention you can catch sunrise without having to have a 4am alarm now), the leaves change colours and fall to the ground and there is a crisp chill in the air that feels energising after the balmy sweat of summer. Enjoy every moment of every season and what this magical planet has to offer!
