An Italian culinary travel experience delivered right to your doorstep
If lockdown #1 got everyone creative behind the stoves, lockdown #2 wants a new, more sophisticated version of at-home meals. In an international city like Milan, where all sorts of culinary experiences are easily approachable, food delivery appears to be a highly requested service to reach people’s palates during these darker times. And if the food is also capable of satisfying the untamable thirst for travelling, it tastes even better.
You know how Italian trends are: getaways on the slopes during the Winter season, one-of-a-kind banquettes situated in unique vineyards in Piedmont, Tuscany and Sicily during fall time, and endless Aperol-Spritzes sipped on rocky beaches with crystal clear waters as soon as summer shows up. If all of these seems far away from your reality right now, do not worry, we have your back. Here is a list of the best restaurants in Milan for you to have a real Italian North to South gourmet experience delivered right to your doorstep.
I Mori, A TASTE OF SICILY
Marco and Francesco, the Drago brothers opened this little très chic place in via Archimede 5, bringing the Sicilian culinary flavours and traditions in the heart of Milan. The Head Chef Alberto Faranda dishes resemble a road-trip on the most beautiful island of the Mediterranean sea, starting from a modern interpretation of the great classic “l’Arancina” (or “l’Arancino”, depending on which side of Sicily you want to ally with) to “Nonna Rosa’s aubergines involtini”. You cannot miss the “Calamarata Felicetti”, pasta with tuna ragout, mint, pistachios pesto, and orange zest, an impeccable plate that will drive you straight to Agrigento, the land where the most exquisite oranges are cultivated. Last but not least, you cannot leave without having savoured the unique “cannolo Siciliano”, made of crunchy wafers, filled in with sheep Ricotta cheese and topped up with sprinkles of chocolate, pistacchio and dried fruits. In fact, thanks to the obsessive research that the Drago brothers have and dedicate to their products, I Mori receives their fresh Ricotta cheese everyday from Partinico, Sicily.

SINE GASTROCRATIC, A TOUCH OF NAPLES
Chef Di Pinto opened the doors to his restaurant quite recently, after mastering cooking techniques at the Bulgari Hotel in Milan. Despite the doors being currently closed due to Covid-19 restrictions, you can still order Di Pinto’s gastrocratic dishes at home. But before that you do so, let us explain what is so special about the term Gastrocratic.
Inspired by Ancient Greece, the concept of gastronomy combined with the noun kratos (i.e. power) explains Chef Di Pinto’s philosophy, which concerns getting rid of anything that is deemed as “unnecessary”. In other words, in every dish that he creates, the chef frees his culinary world from clichès and obsolete prejudices - which means removing “everything that can represent an unnecessary weight both on the plate and on the customer’s bill”. This idea combined together with the Latin name of the restaurant “Sine”, meaning “without”, somehow manages to recall the “less is more” motto, a concept to which we should all adhere to a little more nowadays.
In the chef’s unique dishes, the Neapolitan cuisine and tradition arises straight away in starters menu with the “scarpetta napoletana”. Di Pinto also carefully pays tribute to the city hosting him by proposing the must try “Risotto Milano, Napoli”.

TRATTORIA DEL PESCATORE, A BREEZE FROM SARDINIA
Trattoria del Pescatore opened in 1976 thanks to Giuliano Ardu and his wife Agnese, who managed to bring the flavours of Sardinia in the Milanese city life. The couple proudly introduced the use of the “bottarga di muggine” to create their signature dish also known as “paccheri del Pescatore” and imported (while also re-inventing it with a twist) the “astice alla catalana”, delivered straight from Alghero, Sardinia.
Trattoria del Pescatore bakes its fresh bread every morning, definitely rounding off the dining experience: when having the lobster, “la puccia” is a must. At the moment, you can only place orders to take-away, but we promise that the trip is worth your culinary experience ride!
Recently the owners created a glamorous “Pescatore Lobster Bar” concept situated right next to the restaurant and spectacularly built in pink Himalayan salt to celebrate the success of their “astice alla catalana”. Enjoy and indulge in top-quality raw fish plateaus and top-notch cocktails if you happen to be around!

Although having your favorite food delivered at home is not the same as dressing up and dining at a restaurant table, nor it is comparable to eating Sardinia-style dishes facing the pink-tainted sunsets with a salty sea breeze on your face, we still believe that imagination needs to play a key role in keeping our spirits up during these difficult times. Please help us support our suffering local businesses, making their life better and your supper tastier!
